Ways to Maximize Current Zoning Laws. The host for this show is Keli’i Akina. The guest is Abe Lee.

The practice of building more housing in existing urban areas — ‘infill’ homebuilding — is one of the hottest trends in the country right now, and today’s guest on ‘Hawaii Together,’ Abe Lee, has a great deal of experience with it.

A Hawaii Island resident, Lee has created more than 150 ‘condominium property regime’ projects throughout Hawaii during his career, totaling about 500 individual new homes.

According to Locations Inc., condominium ownership is the ownership of a housing unit and a percentage of undivided interest in the ‘common elements’ — meaning the land and driveways and such. It can involve a high-rise complex or simply two homes on one lot.

CPR-ing is not the same thing as subdividing a property into two more separate fee simple lots.

Along with program host Keli’i Akina, president and CEO of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, Lee discusses CPRs and accessory dwellings units, and how the state’s housing regulations have evolved through the years.
