The ‘Mailbox Conspiracy’ Revisited (Hawaii Together)
Can Hawaii Tackle its Public Corruption. The host for this show is Keli’i Akina. The guest is Alexander Silvert.
On today’s episode of Hawaii Together, host Keli‘i Akina, president and CEO of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, interviews retired federal public defender Alexander Silvert about his recent book, ‘The Mailbox Conspiracy: The Inside Story of the Greatest Corruption Case in Hawaii History.’
In the book, Silvert details his involvement in the investigation and conviction of former Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha and his wife, former city deputy prosecutor Katherine Kealoha, who had tried to frame a relative, Gerald Puana, for a crime he didn’t commit.
Thanks in part to Silvert’s hard work, the web of financial and personal misdeeds perpetrated by the Kealohas spectacularly unraveled, leaving the rest of us to consider what Hawaii can do to combat such corruption in the future.
