Things Going Right at the City Council (Hawaii Together)
Improvements in Permitting and Tax Law. The host for this show is Joe Kent. The guest is Andria Tupola.
The Honolulu City and County Council has the task of managing zoning, property taxes, police, social services and a number of other programs and laws on the most populous island in the state. It’s no easy job.
With property assessments increasing, homelessness as common as ever and housing prices at an inflated level, the Council also receives a lot of criticism for not acting quickly enough to address such pressing concerns.
But the Council has been taking steps to address higher property taxes and the cost of housing, as Councilmember Andria Tupola, who represents District 1 on the Council, explains on today’s show.
Talking with host Joe Kent, executive vice president of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, Tupola talks about why she serves on the Council, some of the recent changes she has helped make to improve the county’s permitting system, the property tax policies she would like to see enacted and her vision for Oahu in years to come.
