National Security: Collateral Damage (Figments: On Reality)
It Takes More that an Apology. The host for this show is Dan ‘Fig’ Leaf.
Host Dan “Fig” Leaf examines the U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan. Originally touted as a strike against terrorist planning another attack on US forces and Afghan civilians, further examination determined that 10 innocent Afghan civilians were killed. Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Milley, acknowledged the error and called it a “horrible tragedy of war.”
Beyond the tepid apologies, neither military or civilian leadership have offered a full explanation. Leaf contrasts that with his own experience in combat, when as a wing commander in combat during Operation Allied Force (the effort to stop Serbian ethnic cleansing), he was called upon to provide a full explanation to a global audience of a similar collateral damage incident just five days after the incident.
