Accessing Your ‘inner Chef’ with Fluency. The hosts for this show are Phyllis Blees and Darlene Boyd. The guest is Soma Mutsuko.
Seattle’s Soba Master Chef Soma Mutsuko teaches us the creative art of “fluency.” Fluency , a core skill of creative thinking (per creativity expert Dr. Joyce Juntune). She teaches us her method of exploring 50 ways of creating something new a month–like noodles, oysters, and panini–from which 3 make it to her menu. Soma experimented with 50 ways to cook instant ramen noodles to win the Cup Noodles “Use Your Noodle” innovation contest and a $50,000 grand prize.
A Food & Wine winner of “Best New Chefs” of 2019, Chef Soma also shares the ancient skill of hand-made buckwheat soba noodle making, which feeds the inner soul and releases the creative powers of both chef and diner. We see her prepare it at Kamonegi (“Duck Leeks”)–her handcrafted buckwheat soba noodle restaurant in Seattle. We learn too about the ancient beverage ”wisdom water,” as Zen masters’ called sake, which she serves at Hannyatou, her sake bar next door to Kamonegi.
