T-Shirt Theatre’s Partnership with the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women
T-Shirt Theatre (TST) is a youth theatre company based in Kalihi whose students perform shows based on their “stories from the streets.” Drama is used as a framework for teaching life skills needed to win jobs, justice and joy. In a unique partnership, TST has been contracted by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration, to write, perform, and video 2 public service announcements (PSAs) for The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women highlighting women’s issues from different phases of life. The three PSAs will focus on how a Kupuna scams, dealing with society’s stereotypes around body image, and “NO never means yes,” when navigating intimacy in relationships.
With special guests, George Kon, Jonah Moananu and Gail Fujita, today’s episode focuses on discussing the talents the artistic process at T-Shirt Theatre utilizing the arts as a means to teach life skills and create awareness about the greater societal issues of our times.
