Crisis Stabilization for Medically Frail Persons in Homelessness
Jerry Coffee joins Jay Fidell to alert the public about a crisis brewing within our medical centers where more homeless each year are requiring medical and psychiatric care, and utilizing hospital beds at a large cost to the medical center. In tandem with more homeless utilizing hospital resources, more homeless are being referred to IHS each year. Emergency shelters however are too dynamic for post-care treatment and utilizing hospital beds are too costly to the medical centers. Jerry Coffee will share with the public IHS’ newest initiative – Tutu Bert Homes – medical respite homes that provide a safety net for medically frail homeless discharged from the hospital.
