Sustainable Energy Low Income Community (Hawaii: State Of Clean Energy)
100% Water and Power Independence. The host for this show is Mitch Ewan. The guest is Dennis Furukawa.
This episode describes a rural low-income community project on the West side of Oahu that uses advanced water and energy technologies to achieve 100% independence and reduce costs to low-income residents.
Village microgrid serves 200-300 homes located on a former sugarcane plantation housing camp. The solar PV is placed on each home lot and connected to energy storage located on industrial lands of the former sugar mill site. This provides sustainable energy for electric transportation and business; sustainable water, wastewater and storm water management; and an introduction to a MODEL that COULD and SHOULD be applied to provide other cost-saving low-income housing opportunities.
