Ordinance Passed at Warp Speed! The host for this episode is Jay Fidell. The guest for this episode is Tom Yamachika.
Maui’s new property tax ordinances say that if you have real property in an area in which the zoning laws permit short-term rental, and that real property isn’t your home, then it doesn’t matter if you live in it, or if no one lives in it. It will be subject to Maui real property tax as a short-term rental. Which is very expensive! These ordinances were passed at warp speed; it took only two weeks from bill introduction to enactment into law. We examine some of the background behind this, including clues in the County Auditor’s report.
