Ko koa uka, ko koa kai (Perspectives On Global Justice)
Today, we have a special guest, Brad Lum, to guide us through a marvelous dialogue about the meaning of ko koa ula, ko koa, Kai, ahupua’a, and wahi pana systems of identification. These are important values for Native Hawaiian culture and people.
Whether we know it or not, every one of us live in ahupua’a. We will be talking about the revival of ahupu’a concept and invite our viewers to confront the challenges of how to co-create sustainable educational systems in the state of Hawaii that recognizes pono practices, building capacity for community based action and managing our environment holistically. We will also talk about how teachers can incorporate these values in their own teaching practices. And lucky for us, we will get the inside scoop on DOE’s actions and steps to ensure that Hawaiian studies and Native Hawaiian language becomes incorporated in their curriculum so every student, from kindergarten through high school have access to it.
