How Foreign Countries Paid up $8M to Trump (American Issues Take One)
Constitution Prohibition of Gifts Ignored. The hosts for this show are Tim Apicella and Jay Fidell. The guest is Chuck Crumpton.
When you rent your house out for $4,000 per month but the party wishing to rent insists on paying $6,000, is the extra $2,000 a gift or a stroke of good luck? The answer is obvious: it’s a payment with the intent to influence. That’s what China did when renting out space at Trump hotels. Paying far above market rates, China made sure Trump was well compensated, nearly $8 million over time as Trump served as POTUS. The Emoluments Clause, Article I, Section 9 of the US Constitution states no foreign country is allowed to shower the president with gifts. The Emoluments clause was ignored by the DOJ. Why? The panel discusses the massive amount of compensation, gifts Trump received during his presidency.
