Jeannie Barroga is a former Asian American Theater Company Artistic Director, a former Literary Manager for both TheatreWorks and the Oakland Ensemble Theater, and a Dramatists Guild Member. The Jeannie Barroga Papers is now in Stanford University Green Library’s Special Collections. Among her over sixty plays, Buffalo’ed, before sold-out houses in 2012, was awarded the Wallace Alexander Gerbode/William & Flora Hewlett Foundation Collaboration Grant; Walls was awarded the National Endowment for the Arts Access to Artistic Excellence Grant; and Banyan, was awarded The Arty for Best Original Production. Other awards include The Los Angeles Women’s Festival Maverick Award; The Joey and Tino TeleTheatre Awards; a Bay Area Playwrights Foundation Award; and the CalArts Herb Alpert Award nomination. National multiple productions include Rita’s Resources (Pan Asian, New York); Walls (Maya Lin’s sculpture); Banyan (a 9-11 allegory); Eye of the Coconut (Midwest Hawaiians); Talk-Story (Kumu produced in 1995), one-woman tour of A Good Face, Gadgets and more. She has several publications and dissertations and has directed at LaMama’s, New York, Brava Theater Center, Theatre Yugen and more. She currently works on novels MARKED and TURN RIGHT AT THE WATER BUFFALO; She was a producer with the Encounters on Earth and SOMA Indie film companies and an actor in the cult horror film I AM A GHOST.
