What does ‘FSM’ Stand For? (Law Across The Sea)
The Creation and Composition of the Federated States of Micronesia. Edward King was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Federated States of Micronesia. He also served as a justice in two other South Pacific jurisdictions and as a Federal Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for Hawaii. Mr. King was the Executive Director of the National Senior Citizens Law Center (NSCLC), a non-profit organization located in Washington D.C., from 1980 -1981, and then again from 2002-2007. The NSCLC advocates for the rights of older Americans. Under Mr. King’s leadership, the NSCLC began and sustained a Federal Rights Project that works to maintain access to justice for older Americans. Mr. King is now retired. We will discuss the creation and composition of the Federated States of Micronesia, his road to becoming the Chief Justice of the FSM, and the FSM’s legal system and his role in its development.
