Inner Peace Through Martial Arts – Jeet Kune Do Unlimited
Burton Richardson is an American martial artist, martial arts instructor, filmmaker, and founder of Jeet Kune Do Unlimited, Battlefield Kali, and BJJ For The Street. Richardson is widely considered by media, commentators, and other martial artists to be one of the world’s leading proponents of functional self-defense. He is credited as being one of the pioneers of modern sport of Mixed Martial Arts, training champions as early as 1995 (Egan Inoue, Enson Inoue).
Richardson began training under Dan Inosanto, Bruce Lee’s training partner in the art of Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts, and Muay Thai kickboxing.
After college, Richardson focused solely on martial arts, continuing his training with Inosanto while studying with the best in various fields of the martial arts. For five years Richardson lived rent-free in a tiny camper trailer in the parking lot of the Washington Dog and Cat Hospital near downtown Los Angeles. This allowed him to train all day, every day. He saved his meager delivery earnings until he had enough to travel for instruction. Richardson made training trips to the Philippines, Japan, Hawaii, Brazil, China, and even to South Africa to train with the Zulu warriors.
Richardson found that much of the traditional self-defense arts lacked a realistic approach to training and application while combat sports had too many rules. Richardson combined the two to develop methods which are acclaimed by martial artists worldwide as being uniquely functional for personal self-defense.
Richardson shared his findings through a monthly column in Inside Kung Fu called Burt Offerings. The column ran for ten years before Richardson moved on to writing for the premiere European magazine Budo International. Richardson has three successful books published by respected publishers, along with many acclaimed instructional videos.
