Hawaiian Music – Can It Be An Exported Product
There was a time when Hawaiian music was distributed and well known around the world, and that led to long term popularity for the Islands.
For a while, after statehood, Hawaiian music was an essential part of the brand, and the hotels promoted it everywhere. In recent years, however, the hotels have left it to others to promote and that takes money the musicians don’t always have.
We’ve had a renaissance in recent years, including banks like the Peter Moon Band and many others. Bu we need to get the word out to the world. How can we do that. What role does business, including the music business, tourism, HTA and the government play in getting global recognition for our music.
For this discussion we have Bobby Hall, one of the members of the Peter Moon band, who has been involved in Hawaiian music, and the renaissance for most of his life. He’ll tell us about his experience and his views, and maybe he’ll evefrn play a few songs for us. Welcome to the show, Bobby.
