Is National News Taking the Oxygen from Local News (Community Matters)
What Can we Do About it. The host for this show is Jay Fidell. The guest is Brett Oppegaard.
Brett Oppegaard of the Journalism Program at UH Manoa helps us understand the evolution of local media in Hawaii and elsewhere, the issues and events it is covering and those it is not covering so well, and how its coverage dovetails with the issues and events that are being covered in national media. Is national news and the consolidation of coverage and advertising taking the oxygen out of local news and media, and is that process accelerating the decline of local media. What can we do to maintain the health of our local media, and what happens if we don’t.
