Fueling Hawaii
Nadine Nakamura is the State Representative from District 14 (East & North Kauai). Earning her Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning, Representative Nakamura was a planning consultant before entering politics. In 2010 she was elected as Kauai County Council member, then in 2013 became the Managing Director in Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho’s administration. She was elected to the State House of Representatives in 2016, representing District 14, East & North Kauai.
In the Carvalho administration, Representative Nakamura worked closed with the Mayor, his department heads and state and federal agencies to help achieve multi-modal transportation options for the island of Kauai. As a new legislator, Rep. Nakamura brings her planning background and county experience. On Hawaii State of Clean Energy we explore Representative Nakamura’s perspective on the challenges of the legislative process, examining areas where and how the legislative process can be improved to take on long term planning issues especially in the transportation sector.
