Prof. Jonathan Fineberg is a prominent art historian of modern and contemporary art; he is the program director of the Ph.D. in Creativity program at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and the Gutgsell Professor emeritus from University of Illinois. He is the author of Art Since 1940: Strategies of Being, the most widely read survey of postwar art, and co-creator (with John Carlin) of Imagining America: Icons of 20th Century American Art, the award-winning PBS television documentary of 2005. Prof. Fineberg is the author of the first major monograph on the leading Chinese artist Zhang Xiaogang. Fineberg is also the author of some 30 books and catalogs on modern art; some have been translated into Chinese. His most recent book is Modern Art at the Border of Mind and Brain. Professor Fineberg has traveled to China multiple times for lectures, art exhibitions and academic conferences.
