Hawaii’s second State Veterans Home (SVH) is named after Senator Daniel K. Akaka. The Akaka SVH will be a 120-bed, 130,000 sq ft facility build on 7 acres of land on Kealanani Avenue in Kapolei, Oahu. The facility will offer skilled nursing and intermediate care facility beds providing long-term care services, geriatric mental health, dementia, and Alzheimer’s care, rehabilitation therapy, hospice, respite and adult day care. In addition, the new facility will provide 150 to 200 healthcare-related jobs and with opportunities for internships and rotations with the University of Hawai’i West as well as local high schools. It will service the 117,000 Veterans living in Hawai’i, of which approximately two thirds (85,000) reside on Oahu.
