Can we Rely on the Supreme Court Anymore (History is Here to Help)
Public Confidence is Justifiably Slipping. The host for this show is Jay Fidell. The guests are Peter Hoffenberg and Avi Soifer.
History Professor Peter Hoffenberg joins us to discuss how the Supreme Court has changed with Trump’s appointees. Commentators, including NY Times Supreme Court reporter Linda Greenhouse (Justice on the Brink) and Adam Cohen (Supreme Inequality), have been writing about the politicization and conservative “activism” of this court, whether it will adhere to the rule of law and the social changes in the country or whether it has been “weaponized” and is “gaslighting” the country instead. In any event, it seems that the court has lost the confidence of much of the country, and we discuss the history and dynamics of that loss of confidence and what it means to the country, and to democracy.
