Big Data Has Arrived! (Law Across The Sea)
Addressing Some of the Legal Issues. Glenn Melchinger is a Director at the law firm of Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing. His law practice focuses on resolution of civil and complex disputes, often those involving computer systems and e-discovery, electronic evidence, and technology. Glenn regularly consults regarding cyber-issues and often speaks on electronic discovery. He writes and speaks Japanese, and helps Japan clients with disputes, business issues, real property and other transactions. Glenn will discuss the phenomenon of “Big Data” and address some of the legal issues around it. Digital information is growing in scope and in kind, often has no borders, and is mined by corporations and governments. Glenn and I will talk about what we mean by “Big Data,” some of the ways in which that data is used, the rights of individuals to be free from cyber-intrusions, the ownership of that personal information, and what protections exist and are contemplated.
