Bacteria in Our Background and Pathogens in the Ala Wai
Professor Greig Steward is a faculty member in the Department of Oceanography and affiliated with C-MORE. He studies the ecology of marine phytoplankton, bacteria and viruses. His work has taken him from the Arctic Ocean to the waters of Antarctica, looking at microbes from the surface ocean all the way down into the deep ocean crust. One of his current research projects is right here at home, studying bacteria and viruses in the waters around Hawaii.
Emma Nuss is a graduate research assistant to Dr. Brian Powell at the University of Hawaii and is working towards a masters in Physical oceanography. Her research is focused on building a coupled microbrial-physical mode to predict pathogenic bacteria concentrated in the Ala Wai Canal and South Shore of Oahu.
