It’s off to a very troubling start. History is played out on live tv to witness the trial of the 45th president- Donald Trump.
Protests from Democrat Senators continue to press fellow Republican Senators and the American public that a trial without evidence- witnesses and documents is not a trial, but more a previously written reality tv script.
The Republican defense case centers not on the facts of the stated offenses by Trump but rather an steadfast position that no laws were violated and that the impeachment trial should therefore be dismissed.
The direction of which way the trial moves comes down to the votes of four Republican Senators votes to align with Democrats. It’s only the first day of the trial. Perhaps the stalemate will continue, perhaps not.
Either way, the rule of law is under the spotlight, but more importantly, the nagging question where do we go from here and what further erosion of the Constitution takes place? The hosts for this episode are Jay Fidell and Tim Apicella.
