The Many Facets of Failure in Afghanistan (Figments: On Reality)
Failure in Afghanistan Has Many Fathers. The host for this episode is Dan ‘Fig’ Leaf.
The host, a combat veteran of the conflicts in Serbia and Iraq, examines the many causes of the failure of U.S. and allied efforts in Afghanistan. Fig was in the Pentagon on 9/11/01 and deployed to both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His examination of the tragic outcome we are witnessing as the U.S. withdraws is easily non-political as there is plenty of blame to go around.
He addresses the strategic decisions made at the national level and operational military choices that led to the Taliban retaking Afghanistan. The costs are myriad and immense to the U.S., to military members that served there, and to the Afghan people, and second order consequences are bound to multiply over time.
