Professor Liu received his undergraduate education at Fudan University and his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Mathematics from Virginia Tech. He is a Professor at Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Swenson College of Science and Engineering, University of Minnesota Duluth, and Chair of the University of Minnesota China Center Board. Professor Liu’s research interests include Optimal Control Theory, Differential Equations, Approximation, and parameter identification. In this episode of ‘A Nation of Immigrants,’ Professor Liu shares his life stories, immigration journey from China to the USA, and his research and teaching in mathematics.
