Louise Keali‘iloma King Lanzilotti, One Of Judge King’s Daughters, Joins Mark Shklov On Law Across The Sea. Samuel Pailthorpe King Was A Kanaka Maoli, An American And A Citizen Of The World. He Was Born In A French Hospital In The Russian Quarter Of Hankow (Wuhan) China In 1916, Where His Father, Samuel Wilder King, Was Serving As A Commander Of A United States Navy Gunboat On The Yangtze River. He Grew Up In Hawaii, Graduated From Yale And Its Law School, And Was A Japanese Translator For The Navy In World War Ii. After World War Ii, He Went Into Private Law Practice And Then Held A Succession Of Territorial And State Judgeships. He Ran For Political Office, Including Governor Of Hawaii. President Richard M. Nixon Appointed Him To The Federal Bench In 1972, Where He Served 38 Years. Judge King’s Wit And Wisdom Were His Trademarks, And Louise Lanzilotti Shares Her Fond Memories Of Her Father.
