The cultures, values, and traditions that Micronesian students bring with them to Hawaii potentially can enrich our educational system and expand horizons in classrooms. All too often, however, this potential synergy is ignored, and the focus shifts to the difficulties that bringing students from diverse cultures into the same classroom present. Hawaii educators must be prepared for the continuing expansion of the Micronesian population, and learn how to use this demographic dynamic to the advantage of all students.
