Not a World War but a World at War (Global Correlations)
A Dramatic Increase in Conflicts Around the World. The host for this show is Jay Fidell. The guest is Carl Baker.
Carl Baker, Senior Advisor to Pacific Forum, helps us review the dramatic increase in conflict around the world. Paul Poast, who wrote about this in the Atlantic, calls it ‘Not a World War But a World at War’ and points out that the past two years have seen the most conflicts of any time since the end of the Second World War. So many, many hotspots around the world: Ukraine; Hamas, Israel and terrorism in the Middle East; Serbia and Kosovo; Syria; Yemen; Eastern Congo; Sudan; French Equatorial Africa; Ethiopia; Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan; Haiti; China and Taiwan; and more. The proxy wars by Russia and Iran. The new high-ltech global weapons trade. The irrelevance of the UN. The declining influence of the US. The increasing emergence of autocrats, militia, and war crimes. Ubiquitous disinformation and manipulation of the media. Why is this happening and where will it lead. As Paul Post says: ‘The prevalence of war, not just its persistence, could now be our future.’
