Kahumana Organic Farm and Cafe – Christian Zuckerman and Keli’i Gannet
Kahumana Organic Farm, located on the West side of Oahu in Waianae, is a diverse farm using strictly organic and biodynamic methods since in 1977. At the same time, the farm is a place of vocational learning for families transitioning from homelessness, people with disabilities, and youth. They believe that reconnecting with the land through farming is a key stepping stone for leading a more healthy, productive and balanced life. In addition to the farm, there is a also a cafe on the property. We’ll talk about aligning a farm with a non-profit mission while staying economically viable, the role of WOOFers in their operations, and discuss if this is a model that can be replicated in other parts of Oahu and Hawaii.
