Inmates: The Forgotten People (Coronavirus and Our Mental Health)
Help for High Risk People. The host for this show is Ken Burtness. The guest is Toni Baran.
Throughout this coronavirus pandemic, people separated themselves from large groups, avoided close personal contact, and protected themselves from airborne viruses. Most could do that. People in prison could not. So, it has been no surprise that the number of inmates who have come down with the coronavirus far exceeds the average. Neither Hawaii, nor America, nor the world was prepared for this pandemic. There were no ready solutions, no clear directions to follow. People and agencies did their best and continue to do so, but answers are elusive, and the numbers remain high. One of the first things done was to prioritize who gets treated first: the elderly, those at health risk, and so on. Inmates were at the bottom, if they were even on the list. They are part of the forgotten population. Only now are people beginning to consider their plight.
