Susan Soon He Stanton is a playwright and screenwriter in New York, originally from Aiea, Hawai‘i. Plays include Whatever Happened To John Boy Kihano, The Underneath, Art of Preservation, Navigator, Takarazuka!!!, SEEK, Cygnus, and more. Her plays have been produced or developed by East West Players, Playwrights Horizons, Kennedy Center, The Public Theater, The Flea, Honolulu Theater For Youth, Clubbed Thumb, Southern Rep, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and others.
She is a writing consultant for Disney Creative Entertainment. She received a Feature Film Development Grant from the Sloan Foundation. She is a two-time Sundance Institution Fellowship/Residency recipient and an alumnus of the Public Theater’s Emerging Writer’s Group. Awards and honors include Van Lier Fellowship at The Lark, Southern Rep’s Ruby Prize Runner-up, Susan Glaspell Prize Finalist, Killroys’ 2015 list, a Susan Smith Blackburn nomination, and a NET Partnership Grant. She has commissions from South Coast Rep, Kumu Kahua, Honolulu Theater for Youth, Perry Mansfield, and Second Generation. Films include Dress (winner of 2014 Hawai‘i International Film Festival Audience Award), Dispatched, Good House, and Same Will. BFA from NYU Tisch’s Dramatic Writing program, MFA from Yale School of Drama and is on the playwriting faculty at SUNY Purchase.
