Hawaii EV Charging Scenarios (Hawaii: State Of Clean Energy)
Navigating a Changing Landscape. The host for this show is Mitch Ewan. The guest is Toby Kinkaid.
1.0. EV Charging in Hawaii – discussion of HECO’s new EV-J schedule designed to encourage EV Charging infrastructure. Major changes offered in this new schedule are Reduced Demand Charge (from $24/kW down to $2/kW), and low electricity prices at 3.84 cents/kWh at Midday (9am to 5pm) and all other hours billed at 12.51 cents/kWh. This is the most progressive pricing schedule in the country, in our guest’s opinion, and opens up EV charging for up to 1,000 sites throughout the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu.
2.0 Green Hydrogen Grid – discussion of the coming transformation of the electrical grid to support an expected influx of battery EVs. Challenges faced by Fleet Managers, and solutions using increased Solar PV and Electrolyzers to absorb all excess renewable energy to produce clean hydrogen to power EV chargers.
