Effecting Change as a Young Lawmaker
Rep. Ichiyama was elected to office in 2010 soon after graduating from UH Richardson School of Law. While in high school, she served as the student member on the Hawaii State Board of Education, representing all of Hawaii’s public school students. How did her student activism in politics and the community prepare her for a hands on role as a lawmaker? We will also discuss her current work on the Women’s Legislative Caucus, including the status of sex assault evidence kits known as rape kits. Rep. Ichiyama is currently the Vice-Chair of the Consumer Protection & Commerce Committee.
