A former member of the Hawaii Civil Rights Commission and the Hawaii State Board of Education ( in 2006 she was the highest ranking openly transgender elected official in the US and the first openly transgender official to win statewide office), Kim is also a lawyer who was honored by the Obama White House as a Champion for Change.
