Building a Fun Family Business – Outlandish Productions and Hula Rosie with Dana Land
A vocalist, recording artist, producer, jazz camp director and educator, Dana Land has the pleasure of performing for some of the most discerning clients as she performs at private events, festivals, jazz clubs and concerts with her varying ensembles. She stirs up the jazz scene with a refreshing style and playful presence performing a wide range of popular jazz from vintage and contemporary standards, swing and show tunes to Brazilian and blues, from candlelight moods to heated up rhythms that make you want to get up and dance to the groove!
Growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dana studied classical piano for many years and absorbed the sounds of her mother’s beautiful coloratura voice as she rehearsed for her opera performances. After a career in interior design in San Francisco, Dana followed her true passion and studied vocal jazz at Sonoma State University. Now, after many years of performing for audiences throughout San Francisco and California she has returned to her homeland of Honolulu, Hawaii, where she has been performing for corporate, private and public audiences.
In addition to her jazz career, Dana also produces ‘Kids Perform for Kids’ Sake’, a variety show put on by the talented youth for the benefit of local children in need. While residing in the wine country town of Sonoma, Dana was the director of Sonoma’s Teen Jam Jazz Camp from 2008 through 2010, and was also a board member of The Sonoma Valley Jazz Society, which continues to support and promote jazz by producing free concerts for the public. Currently, Dana’s top-shelf band, “Spirit of Jazz”, is taking their engaging jazz presentation into Hawaii’s schools with the purpose of educating and inspiring the youth with America’s important indigenous art form.
Dana’s latest album, “All the Cats Join in”, released in January, 2012, is a collaboration with a number of world-class musicians including Count Basie Orchestra trumpeter, Scotty Barnhart; passionate violin virtuoso, Carlos Reyes; brilliant multi-reed player, Jeff Sanford; dynamic and energetic pianist Jonathan Alford; legendary pianist, Larry Vuckovich; world renown drummer, Akira Tana; first call bassists John Wiitala & Chris Amberger, and the talented and artistic Honolulu Jazz Quartet.
