Bigger Isn’t Better When it Comes to Batteries! (Stan The Energy Man)
Everyone has experience with batteries!. The utility grid is a balancing act, and the more intermittent renewable that the grid has to deal with, the tougher the job, so energy storage is critical in the grid of the future. When it comes to storing electrical energy, most of us turn to the good old, tried and true battery. But just because it’s very efficient (energy in to energy out), does not mean that it can scale up to utility grid scale, and we will explain that in vivid detail. Everyone has experience with batteries! They’re cute, reliable, not too expensive, and some are even rechargeable! We all love batteries, even Stan the Energy Man. But batteries have their place and loading the utility grid with batteries is not a good thing. We’ll discuss the “Right Sizing” of energy storage with Mr. Ryan Wubbens, our Favorite Electrical Engineer! The host for this episode is Stan Osserman. The guest for this episode is Ryan Wubbens.
