Roopmati Khandekar, who studies and writes on global relations, reports to us on the UN resolution declaring that access to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, is a universal human right. The states who abstained were China, the Russian Federation, Belarus, Cambodia, Iran, Syria, Kyrgyzstan and Ethiopia. We talk about the background of the resolution, its effect on the UN members, the reasons for the abstentions, and that steps that need to be taken to achieve its purpose.
