As we have seen energy concerns play out this week, it is becoming painfully evident that a shift towards 100% renewables cannot happen as legislated by wishful thinkers. California and parts of the western United States have been dealing with severe drought, heat waves and now constraints impacting their ability to meet their peak energy demands. As this same state passed legislation to exclude internal combustion vehicles from their roads by 2035, they also urgently asked electric vehicle owners to delay charging them due to the utility concerns with supplying that demand. Examples like these, though painful, can prove quite useful to fine tune the approach to better leverage renewable resources while balancing that with a diversified energy mix.
