Docomomo Hawaii. Custom metalwork, usually in the form of railings, frequently appeared on mid-century buildings in Hawaii. While some examples are ornate and expensive, a great deal of this material was created for middle-class homes. Numerous examples of these railings can still be seen today. Changing construction styles and the high cost of such custom work has permanently ended this practice, however.
