STEAM Education Poster Contest – Phil Blackman
February 20’s topic will be on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education, and my guest will be Phil Blackman, a retired engineering professor who developed a new state-wide poster competition for students, aimed at helping them learn to effectively convey scientific and technical information.
January and February have brought us National School Choice Month, Honolulu District Science and Engineering Fair, State Science Olympiad contest, and currently National Engineers Week and the inaugural Inventive Engineer Statewide Poster Contest. What do these have in common? We will explore as a discussion of changing education trends.
Philip Blackman has been a long time education researcher and practitioner. He was an Institute Tutor at MIT, Professor at the University of Virginia, and long-time volunteer in Robotics and Science Fair Initiatives in Hawaii. He currently is researching “Process of thinking” characteristics of teacher and learner to discover potential economic and skill attainment advantages.
