Remembering Ayotzinapa (Latin American Directions)
Unresolved Issues 8 Years After. The host for this show is Nicolás Süssmann Herrán. The guest is Ximena Medellin.
On September 26, 2014, 43 students were abducted and then forcibly disappeared from Ayotzinapa Rural Teacher Training College in Iguala, Mexico. The school was well known for its left-winged tendencies, and the students were participating near the date of the incident in demonstrations against teacher hiring policies. On the night of the disappearance, the bus that transported the students had a clash with the police, where the latter fired shots against the buses. After that, 43 students went missing, and the investigations have been contested and inconclusive regarding what happened and who is responsible. In 2022, the Commission of Truth and Access to Justice set for the case issued its report and said that the State had responsibility for the disappearances. In this episode, host Nicolas Sussmann and guest Ximena Medellin unpack the most recent developments in the case and discuss unresolved issues.
