Mahi`ai Matchup: Connecting Farmers with Land – Kalani Fronda, Dana Shapiro and Jasmine Slovak
Dana Shapiro, is the Manager of Mala Kalu`ulu Cooperative, a Big Island based coop whose members grow ulu. Kalani Fronda is the Senior Land Assets Manager in the Community Engagement and Resources Group for Kamehameha Schools.
In 2015, the Mla Kalu’ulu Co-op was a winner of the Mahi`ai Matchup – an agricultural business plan contest created by Kamehameha Schools and the Pauahi Foundation. The contest is dedicated to increasing food production for the local market to create a sustainable Hawaii. The contest is open to farmers, aspiring farmers, and other agricultural producers including ranching, fishery and nursery proprietors interested in growing food for Hawaii. On July 30th will be the next Mahi`ai Matchup Gala, an event where this year’s winners will be announced!
