His grandmother convinces him to teach one more year, fulfilling his contract. He meets with a supervisor, who tells him she has never seen such a reluctant teacher as him. She sends him to the most remote schoolhouse in Bhutan, at the most remote village in the whole world, until the winter snows end the school session for the year The journey there is very difficult and trying for him, and the school has few of the necessities he is accustomed to. He decides to stay until winter and does a great job teaching the students in this remote village. The profound ending episode of the movie shows him singing at a bar in Sydney.
