How is our Brain Wired to Grieve (Books! Books! Books!)
‘The Grieving Brain’. The host for this show is Mihaela Stoops. The guest is Sonya Chambliss Alexander.
This discussion is based on the book by Mary-Frances O’Connor, PhD, titled ‘The Grieving Brain’. This is not a sad story, but rather an explanation of what the brain does when we are grievig; how it has to ‘rewire’, as to adjust to a reality that a dear one is no longer physically part of. Grieving is essentially another form of learning, much more complex than learning a skill or a foreign language. Giving advice to someone who is grieving is pointless and even hurtful. Instead, the author encourages us to stay in the present, to be mindful of it and to allow our brains the rewire to the new reality.
