The staff of Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies (HMHB) sat down to talk about the evolution of the organization, and where the programs are heading next. Clinical Services Director Kari Wheeling and Program Coordinator Vivian Choy, along with host and former Executive Director Lisa Kimura, discussed Piko Pals new parent support program, Cribs for Kids Hawaii, maternal mental health counselors for postpartum support services, and legislative priorities. Access to emergency contraception and Paid Family Leave options are critical advancements for families, and HMHB is proud to have worked to help establish the Hawaii maternal mortality review panel to investigate the deaths of mothers.
HMHB continues with the community and legislative partners to improve access to contraception and reproductive health education, in part through One Key Question, a clinical reproductive health screening tool. HMHB is also leading the way in developing “the next frontier” of community-based clinical services. Licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) and registered nurses (RNs) aim to provide community-based health services directly to women.
