About a third of the carbon dioxide produced from human activity ends up in the ocean where it can harm marine ecosystems.. Dr. Sabine will highlight a recent Science article he co-authored quantifying the accumulation of anthropogenic (human-derived) carbon in the ocean between 1994 and 2007 based on direct ocean measurements. This work is building off of a previous article in Science, for which he was the lead author, quantifying for the first time ever the total amount of anthropogenic carbon in the ocean in 1994 based on ocean carbon measurements. He will also discuss the effects of this carbon on marine organisms, a process called ocean acidification.
The host for this episode is Ethan Allen. The guest for this episode is Christopher Sabine.
