Host John A. Sweeny talks with guest Miriam Simun makes creative disruptions, actions that poke, provoke, and re-imagine current systems. By any medium necessary (including objects, installation, illustration, food, and writing) she creates and documents participatory experiences and performances that open up spaces of possibility, imagination and debate about the ways we interact with our world. Based in scientific, historical and ethnographic research, much of her work interrogates the implications of socio-technical-environmental change.

Simun has exhibited and lectured internationally, including Postmasters Gallery, The New Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, CUNY Graduate Center, NYU Performance Studies, Concordia University and ART NOW Series at the University of Lethbridge. She is a 2013 Creative Capital Fellow in the Emerging Fields, and her work has been supported by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Smaby Family Foundation and Northern Lights. Her work has been recognized internationally in various publications, including the Art21, Design INDABA, BBC Radio Russia, CBC Radio Canada, Columbian National Radio, The Financial Post, The Atlantic, Core77, Hyperallergic, Fast Company and Duke University Press. Simun holds a bachelors degree from the London School of Economics and a masters degree in Interactive Telecommunications from NYU.
