Citizen Kane’s Newspaper is Musk’s Twitter (What Now America)
Oversight and Limits of Social Media. The host for this show is Tim Apicella. The guests are Jay Fidell and Cynthia Lee Sinclair.
In the 1941 movie Citizen Kane, newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane uses sensational journalism to gain readership so it becomes one of the best-selling publications. From there, his newspaper pushes his personal political agenda and settles grudges against former and current enemies. The movie was loosely based on the media empire of William Randolph Hearst. Should Elon Musk complete the purchase of Twitter for the price tag of $44B, he will take the company from a public trading company to a private one. With Musk’s philosophy of no free speech restrictions, one can only imagine the 280 character content that will spew bile and tall tales of conspiracy theories to further captivate the vulnerable-minded and encourage more grievances that never existed before. Expect future outrage of stolen elections not yet held, and newfound hatred for people never met. The panel explores the topic of Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
