Amending the Hawaii State Constitution to fund Public Education (The Will of the People)

Corey Rosenlee is a national board-certified social studies teacher, who taught in Hawaii public schools for more than 20 years. He is an activist and President of the Hawaii State Teachers Association, who has fought for social justice in Hawaii’s public schools, better pay for teachers, classroom air conditioning, smaller class sizes amongst other issues.
In this episode we’ll discuss, the history of this Amendment and why did the House remove the Limited percentage attached to the original bill and the specification as to the minimum value of the investment properties to be taxed. We’ll also discuss the ballot question: “Shall the legislature be authorized to establish, as provided by law, a surcharge on investment real property to be used to support public education?” The host for this episode is Martha Randolph.
