The new Trump U.S. China Trade Deal (Global Connections)
Is it real? The U.S., China Trade Agreement Phase I, will be signed and be effect Wednesday, January 15, 2020. The key issues will be the American Intellectual Property Rights, Infringement of Copyrights & Licensing Fees and China’s purchase of an additional $200 billion of Agricultural Products. The Deal provides that China has 90 days to comply and resolve these issues or the U.S., will take action against China with more tariffs, among other things. In the meantime there will be a 19.3 % tariff even while the deal is being implemented. This is more than 6 times more the tariffs imposed in 2018. American consumers will be paying for those tariffs based on the price markup and the fair-market value of the imports affected. Congress may pass a ‘bill mitigating the effects of those tariffs on U.S. consumers. The Importers U.S. companies would have tax write-offs so that the tariffs are adjusted based on fair-market-value. The host for this episode is Jay Fidell. The guest for this episode is Russell Honma.
